European Tradition, Local Experience
Thirty-five years ago, Atelier Desjardins was built on the woodworking and joinery traditions of Europe. Over time, that foundation has been shaped by an equally deep understanding of South African conditions – the climate, the materials, and the particular demands of local properties.
The result is a studio that approaches both restoration and new work with the same structured methodology: technically sound, built to last, and informed by experience on both sides.

The Workshop
The Atelier Desjardins workshop is where the work begins. It supports both heritage restoration and contemporary woodworking – from technical research and material selection through to preparation and finishing.
Working from a dedicated workshop means greater control over quality, consistency, and timing at every stage of a project.

How We Work
Structured Consultation
Every project begins with a thorough assessment of the brief, the site, and the materials involved. We ask the right questions before any work begins.
Technical Precision
Wood restoration and woodworking both require accuracy - in measurement, in method, and in the choice of materials. We do not rush this part.
Preservation-Focused Solutions
Where original material can be saved, we save it. Replacement is a last resort, not a first instinct.
Professional Execution
Each project is managed with clear communication, structured timelines, and consistent quality from first day to last.
Long-Term Durability
The goal of every project is work that holds up - to use, to weather, and to time. We are not interested in results that need revisiting in two years.
