Last Updated: [Date of Publication]

Atelier Desjardins is committed to protecting your personal information and to being transparent about how we collect and use it. This policy explains what information we collect through the Atelier Desjardins website (atelierdesjardins.co.za), why we collect it, and how it is handled – in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013.

Please read this policy carefully. By using this website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it.

Who We Are

Responsible party: Atelier Desjardins
Address: Northcliff, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
Contact: nida@tiscali.co.za

The responsible party is the person or organisation that determines the purpose of and means for processing your personal information. For the purposes of POPIA, that is Atelier Desjardins.

What Information We Collect

We collect personal information through two channels on this website.

Contact form
When you submit an enquiry through our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and the content of your message. Submitting this form is voluntary. You are not required to provide all fields, but incomplete submissions may limit our ability to respond to your enquiry.

Newsletter subscription
If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. Subscription is entirely voluntary and you may unsubscribe at any time.

Website analytics (Google Analytics 4)
This website uses Google Analytics 4, implemented via the Google Site Tracker plugin for WordPress, to collect anonymised information about how visitors use the site. This includes data such as pages visited, time spent on the site, general geographic location (country or region level), device type, and how you arrived at the site. This data is collected via cookies placed on your browser.

Google Analytics does not identify you as an individual. It processes aggregated, anonymised usage data to help us understand how the website is performing and how we can improve it.

Why We Collect This Information

We collect and process your personal information only for the specific purposes described below.

Information

Purpose

Name, email, phone, message (contact form)

To respond to your enquiry and discuss your project

Email address (newsletter)

We do not use your contact form details for marketing unless you have also subscribed to our newsletter. We do not combine your contact form submissions with your analytics data.

Legal Basis for Processing

Under POPIA, we may only process your personal information if we have a lawful basis for doing so.

For contact form submissions, the legal basis is your consent — you choose to submit the form and provide your details. For newsletter subscriptions, the legal basis is your explicit consent at the point of subscription. For Google Analytics, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used, combined with your consent to cookies via our cookie notice.

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before the withdrawal.

Cookies

This website uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website.

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) are used to collect anonymised usage data as described above. These cookies are not set until you have consented to them via our cookie notice.

Functional cookies may be used by WordPress to maintain basic website functionality. These are strictly necessary for the site to operate.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the website. For more information on how Google uses data collected through Analytics, see Google’s Privacy & Terms.

How We Store and Protect Your Information

Contact form submissions and newsletter subscriptions are stored securely within our website’s WordPress database and, where applicable, within our email service. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

Google Analytics data is stored on Google’s servers. Google processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy and data processing terms. As a result, your anonymised analytics data may be processed outside of South Africa. Google LLC is headquartered in the United States and operates under a framework that the South African Information Regulator recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection for the purposes of this transfer.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain contact form submissions for as long as is reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry and for a reasonable period thereafter in case of follow-up. Newsletter subscriber records are retained for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your email address will be removed from our mailing list promptly.

Analytics data is retained in Google Analytics in accordance with the data retention settings we have configured — currently set to [specify your GA4 retention period, e.g. 14 months]. Anonymised, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be used to identify you.

Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject under POPIA, you have the following rights in relation to your personal information held by Atelier Desjardins:

Right to access — You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Right to correction — You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information.

Right to deletion — You may request that we delete your personal information, subject to any lawful reason we may have to retain it.

Right to object — You may object to the processing of your personal information where we rely on legitimate interest as our legal basis.

Right to withdraw consent — Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. To unsubscribe from our newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email.

Right to lodge a complaint — If you believe your rights under POPIA have been infringed, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

To exercise any of the above rights, contact us at [email address]. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with POPIA.
